Political commentators Rudoulph & Rudoulph talks abt increasing case of "modernization of tradition n traditionalization of modernity". So, its a case of sheer exploitation of culture to attune as per an individual's convenience n meet one's egoistic end or to be in power to extract sadistic pleasure. Women who support subjugation of women do so not only because they are entrenched with patriarchal mindsets but also they benefit personally (saas bhi kabhi bahu thi type or we abhore ragging in 1st yr but rationalize ot in 2nd yr). So, women who r in power either by age or by caste- Brahmin women or upper class- want to preserve subjugation of women as a class in general. Feminists do advocate for women in total but they are suspected for being radical n self-obsessed n hence highjacking debates at least in India where there is need of smooth transition. Feminist Betty Friedan in her "The Feminine Mystique" says women editors of various women centric magazine are mostly responsible for portraying them as sexual idols n commodifying. They talk about happy women enjoying marital lives in luxury at husbands` earning n how a working women struggling to balance work & home. In case of India though feminist voices have come up from upper class well read section but their pursuits have been mostly academic. Also, focus is on mostly civil political rights n now economic rights but social cleavages have been seen through sacrosanctric lenses ,so no ground level change. Compassionately, Vandana Shiva compares Women with the plight of our earth Vis a Vis all way exploitation but such simile indicates only notion of "tragedy of commons" of our fair sexes.....
*Brahmin women is not to malign any caste but to indicate an elitist mindset and this mindset can be in every caste or class
*sacrosanctric lense...(manufactured word by me, may be wrong but an attempt to make portmanteau)
